Below are some of the tools and supplies I use in my shop and recommend.
Tools
Cutting
Measuring and marking
- Stanley tape measure
- 6" square
- 12" square
- Narex marking knife
- Clarke Brothers marking gauge
- Clarke Brothers dovetail marker
Hand planes
I use vintage Stanley hand planes (mainly a no 4 and 5, sometimes a no 7 for jointing long boards). Vintage planes can typically be found on Ebay and with a bit of work, can be restored to a perfectly usable state.
You can also buy new hand planes but they are a lot more expensive. While I have not used them personally, Woodriver planes have a good reputation (no 4 here and no 5 here).

Glue
Finishing
My go-to finishes are Shellac and Tru-Oil.
- Shellac flakes, mix with denatured alcohol
- Tru-Oil
